EdTA Conference to Livestream Arts Education Survey & Standards Sessions
The Educational Theatre Association will video stream two keynote presentations on Saturday September 22 from the EdTA Conference in San Diego at new.livestream.com/edta.
8:45 to 9:45 am Pacific time: The premiere public presentation of the 2011-12 Educational Theatre Association-Utah State University Survey of Theatre Education in United States High Schools, by Dr. Matt Omasta
11:15 am to 12:15 pm Pacific Time: An update on the Next Generation Standards Project by EdTA theatre writing team members and leadership of the National Coalition for Core Standards (NCCAS). EdTA, along the with seven other national arts and education organizations that comprise NCCAS, are rewriting the landmark 1994 National Arts Education Standards.
Both presentations will include a live chat option allowing the online audience to pose questions to the presenters.
EdTA Executive Director Julie Woffington called the video streaming an important and well-timed step towards fulfilling the organization’s mission and strategies. “The survey is offering a comprehensive and much-needed overview of what’s happening in the field of secondary theatre education in the twenty-first century—who’s teaching it, what’s being taught, how new technology is shaping learning and curriculum, and so much more,” she said. “The new national arts standards are going to reshape how arts education is delivered in this country for years to come. We’re proud and excited that our members are offering their expertise on the theatre aspect of this work.
“Sharing both of these conference presentations through a real-time video stream and chat allows us to broaden our engagement with so many more individuals and organizations that might otherwise not be able participate,” said Woffington. “EdTA is committed to expanding access to theatre education to a more diverse student population, providing richer professional development opportunities for teachers, and bringing initiatives like these to the attention of policy makers. Using this sort technology is a good example of how we plan to move forward with this commitment.”
